The challenge
Brad found out what owner dependency costs. To the dollar, with receipts.
He'd gone all in on his agency in March of 2023 and by 2025 he was one burnt out guy. So he looked at his last ten clients and asked which ones he actually liked.
Turns out it was the agency owners hiring him to find offshore developers. He launched TalentFuze on April 1, 2025. April Fools on purpose, so everyone would assume the announcement was a bit.
Two days before launch his son went into the ICU. He announced it anyway, from the hospital, with a photo of the kid and a line about delegation being the reason he didn't miss a moment.
The solution
Then he took our assessment. One question on it asks how dependent your clients are on you.
“Holy shit,” he said. “I never realized how much more valuable a company would be if it didn't depend on me.”
What we did
Screaming Cow sold to Adam McChesney and we facilitated both sides. The payout was a multiple tied to which clients stayed after Brad left, so before the deal closed he wrote down the two he thought would walk without him.
Both walked and that number came straight out of his check.
What changed
TalentFuze is built the opposite way. He has never run an onboarding call or run recurring account management. Every call has a note taker so anyone on the team can pick it up cold.
He gets tagged in Facebook groups now and the posts say his team is great. Not him.
There's one more thing, and he asked to read it out loud on camera.
A year ago he handed me a document. In it he'd written: “I truthfully have thoughts of not seeing a way out and that it would be easier for me to be gone.” He wrote that he'd never act on it. That the feelings had shown up anyway.
“I do not feel that way anymore,” he said. “I feel that my wife, my family, this world is better with me in it.”
He'll tell you Diffactory didn't do that and he's right. He did the work. But he wasn't in the room alone while he did it, and that turns out to matter.
The takeaway
Every agency owner leaves the agency eventually. Almost none of them pick the date.
Your next chapter starts with just one meeting, you and me.
