BE THE FILAMENT: LIVING My Infinite Purpose
Like many good stories, this one started in Vegas.
My wife and I were with friends, riding up the escalator through The Chandelier lounge in the Cosmopolitan.
Looking back at my buddy Dr. Alex, I said, "Be The Filament." And it stuck.
The journey to that moment began in October 2021, during some deep personal work with my mentor, Jose Bolaños, in Nicaragua. After my mom passed away in 2020, I needed direction. Jose helped me dig deep, past the surface-level crap most people never get beyond.
We spent days breaking down what truly drives me, what makes me feel most alive.
I realized something profound through our work together and declared a noble commitment.
Some call it a life purpose:
I am the commitment to being in the filament and the lives of people I touch.
For the sake of what?
The world needs it desperately. Others can use this encouragement to help them see the goodness in themselves.
I love reminding others that there's joy in them.
This is who benefits from my commitment:
My family
My friends
My clients
My community
This is my original document from 2021. It's a couple of pages long, it's beat up, and I've accomplished most of what I needed to fulfill my commitment.
I continue to work on it every day.
If you ever see me taking ice baths on social media every Sunday, it's a ritual that helps me honor my personal development plan and my commitment to you if you're reading this.
We have to train for life just like an athlete trains for their sport.
This is my LIFE training regimen.
It also impacts people who aren't here, as I'm a deeply spiritual person. I know they're all watching down upon me, especially my mom.
"Be The Filament" is more than just another way of saying "be the light" for me. The filament transforms energy into something visible, warm, and necessary.
It's the element that makes light possible.
That’s my mission and purpose in life.
Knowing I can do this in the worst scenarios confirms this as my infinite purpose.
Even if everything gets stripped away (business, possessions, status), I can still be the filament in the lives of people I touch. I could be anywhere, in any circumstance, and still fulfill this purpose. I could lose everything tomorrow and still be the filament. That's how I know this is what I'm on this huge rock for.
Once I figured this out, everything else became pretty easy. The decisions in front of me were clear.
Should I take this client?
Will this new service align with my purpose?
How do I structure my day?
When you know why you're here, these questions have more obvious answers.
That's a big part of what I want to help people understand through my work with business owners.
Once you have direction about your purpose, business decisions don't have to be as confusing.
The path forward becomes more evident. This applies whether we're talking about your life purpose or your business's reason for existing
This idea has become more than just a philosophy; it has become my life.
So there you go.
